About ImageCrush

What It Is

ImageCrush is a native macOS app for batch image optimization. Drag in files or entire folders, then compress, resize, crop, rename, and convert between JPG, PNG, WebP, HEIC, and AVIF — all in one step. Every image is processed locally on your Mac using native Apple frameworks and optimized open-source codecs. No uploads, no cloud services, no subscription. $14.99 one-time purchase with a free 7-day trial.

Why We Built It

We needed a tool that could take a folder of images and batch export them to the exact format, dimensions, and quality level a project required — without uploading files to a server, stringing together CLI commands, or paying a subscription for a utility app.

The existing options each solved part of the problem. ImageOptim is great at compression but can’t resize, convert formats, or save presets. Online tools like TinyPNG and Squoosh handle individual images but fall apart with batches of 50 or 500. CLI tools like ImageMagick offer maximum control but no visual feedback. And subscription-based apps bundle features most users don’t need.

ImageCrush combines the parts that matter — batch processing, format conversion, resize, crop, compression, and reusable presets — in a focused, native Mac app that processes everything locally. One tool, one step, no cloud dependency.

Who Makes It

Creative Director & Developer

I’m Tim, the developer behind ImageCrush. I’m a multi-disciplinary creative director and interactive media developer with 20+ years of experience building things across games, apps, branding, and the web. My background spans AAA console titles, mobile games and apps, and immersive AR/VR projects — work that sits at the intersection of design, programming, and production.

At Rocket 5 Studios, we build native Mac and iOS apps alongside branding and web development work for businesses and organizations. ImageCrush came directly from our own workflow needs — we optimize hundreds of images per project across game assets, product screenshots, marketing materials, and web content. We built the tool we wanted to use every day.

How It’s Built

ImageCrush is 100% native macOS — built with SwiftUI and Apple’s image processing frameworks. No Electron, no embedded web views, no bundled CLI tools. It runs natively on Apple Silicon and Intel Macs, processes images concurrently with up to 8 parallel threads, and operates entirely within Apple’s App Sandbox for privacy and security.

AVIF encoding uses an optimized open-source codec compiled for macOS. Every other format — JPEG, PNG, WebP, HEIC — is handled by Apple’s native ImageIO framework.
